Entering 2021 With Your Best Foot Forward: Resolutions For Your Home

Mansons Social Mansons Social 17th December 2020

There’s no denying that 2020 has been unusual to say the least, but we won’t fail in making some new resolutions in hopes to makes our lives a little bit better. Whether it’s shopping more locally and supporting small businesses or putting away additional savings to invest in the property market, the options are endless.

However, around 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February. We need to stop looking at these like big life changes, and rather as small steps to achieve a more simplified goal. They need to be something you constantly work towards, and they truly have no deadline in the grand scheme of things.

Think of them as tasks – we all love those – and often complete them. Plus, there’s always some sense of joy when we can finally tick them off. Not only that, there’s always stuff that we want to do at home but can never find the time.

We’ve put together a list of common activities to give you inspiration for your own list:

1.      Sort out your storage

Whether you’ve got ‘stuff’ piling up in your garage or indoor cupboards, it’s always good to have a clear out. Although it may not look like it, 2021 is your year. You can do this!

Put some time aside to go through everything you’ve been collecting over the years and make hard decisions on what you need and what you could probably do without. It’s important to remember that just because you might not have a use for something, someone else could. Think about selling online or donating to charity shops!

2.      Make sustainable swaps and upcycle

As a generation, we’re becoming more sustainable in so many ways and it’s important to incorporate such processes in our home. Not only is it good for the planet, in many ways it can be good for our pockets.

Ecoegg is a great example of becoming more sustainable and saving money when it comes to doing your laundry. They can be used for multiple washes and still get the job done!

If you’ve some old furniture that is showing its age, there’s always cheaper ways to mend them and make them look brand new. Give those aging set of drawers a fresh lick of paint!

3.      Digitalise our photographs and home video tapes

Everyone has suitcases full of old photographs and VHS videos of precious memories from our childhood. It’s time to make sure that they’re safe and sharable for the rest of time. Although it sounds massively complicated, it’s easier than you think.

Organise your photos into appropriate albums so you can complete this task in stages over time. Scan your photographs or if you want to convert a VHS online, head on to your local photo development store and they will be able to help you with this.

4.      Setting a routine

The biggest challenge is setting yourself a routine that you follow, and this often goes for anything. If you know you’ve got regular tasks, make sure this becomes part of your schedule. You could use an app like as Notion to keep on track of this.

If you can confidently achieve this one, you’re setting yourself for huge successes with your other resolutions!

Good luck to everyone and fingers crossed you keep these going post February!
