Social distanced activities to do in the North East

Mansons Social Mansons Social 29th July 2020

As lockdown measures become a not-so distant memory, we now have more freedom of movement in England. It’s time to get out of the house, get moving and enjoy the summer.

Going to restaurants or being in potentially crowded places might not be what you’re looking for right now, so we’ve compiled a list of our favourite socially distanced activities to do around Newcastle and the North East.

-        Support your favourite local businesses. This one is relatively easy, grab a to-go coffee or full meal from a local cafe or restaurant, you don’t need to dine-in to enjoy your favourite sweet treats or dishes. A local favourite for us is Arlo Bistro & Cafe in Jesmond; their cakes are divine!

-        Many of us are using our new found freedom to explore the local area and as the sun is making a reappearance, now’s a great time to take advantage of the beautiful countryside Northumberland has to offer. There are so many amazing places, like Northumberlandia, near Cramlington or Hadrien’s Wall that provide breathtaking views and walks.

-        An oldie but a goodie, Tynemouth beach; grab some fish and chips from Riley’s Fish Shack and cosy up under a blanket while you watch the waves. If you’re feeling a bit competitive, there’s also Lost World Adventure Golf nearby as well.

-        Visit a famous local landmark, The Angel of The North. Us locals are very guilty of going once and never going again, take advantage of the good weather and grab a photo-opportunity at the North East’s most iconic spot.

-        Keep your eyes peeled for information about the UK’s first ‘dedicated socially distanced music venue’ that is set to open in Newcastle. When it opens this summer, the venue, named Virgin Money Unity Area will hold up to 2,500 for a unique live music experience. It takes inspiration from drive-in theaters and full details of acts to perform is yet to be announced.
